Yesterday we talked about how an Associates Store, or aStore, can help you integrate your niche and your business, benefiting your readers and you. Today we will cover how to set it up.
Log in to Associates Central, and select aStore in the blue navigation bar.
This brings up any aStores you may already have, and/or gives you the option to Add an aStore.
Amazon allows up to 100 aStores per Associate, so the sky’s the limit with this! You could create a separate aStore for every niche that you write in.
Just below the Manage your aStores table there are a couple suggested templates you could use, but there is no need to. Click Add an aStore, shown above.
Choose a unique Tracking ID for your aStore.
This is how you will identify each aStore, so choose something that helps you know which store is which. It will automatically add –20 to the end of the ID you choose, which shows that your aStore is in the United States. Each country has a different ID code.
Amazon will create your aStore, and setup begins.
Think of Category Pages as aisles in a store, or pages in a catalog. Create categories to organize the items in your store. You can come back and add more Categories later. Click Continue when you are finished.
Next you can make some basic Design changes.
This is where your personal branding comes in. You can use your website’s colors, so make sure you find out what those Hex numbers are. You can also change fonts and font colors.
Name Your aStore and Set up the Header
You choose what to call it, and again your branding is useful here. This helps your readers identify that this aStore is part of your website or blog, whether you have it embedded in the site or you just link to it. They will still “recognize you” when they see your header and your site name on it. Click Continue.
Set the layout of the sidebars.
Select which widgets you want to have shown.
The sidebar and the main body of the aStore may have product widgets, if you want them. When you decide what you want them to include, click Finish & Get Link.
Your setup is complete!
Now you get to decide how you want to show off your new aStore. You have three options:
1. Include a link on your site to your aStore on Amazon.com. This is convenient because it’s just a link to the store, but then again it takes your readers away from your site.
2. Embed your aStore using an iFrame. This works very well in WordPress. Just create a new page, click Text Editor, and paste the code into the editor. Save it and preview. The aStore won’t show up in the Visual Editor but it does show when you Preview the page.
3. Embed your aStore using a frameset. This did not work for me in WordPress.
This is what a completed Associates Store looks like, although there aren’t any products in it yet.
