Let’s get this party started!
You want to earn some extra money as an Amazon Associate, and I want to help you. Amazon makes it very simple to set up an Associate account. There are a few things you should know about their guidelines.
First, if you have more than one website or blog, you do not need to create more than one account. Amazon doesn’t disallow having more than one account, but they do prefer that each individual person maintain one Associate account that they may use on all of their online domains.
You don’t have to, but you can apply for separate IDs to enable you to track each site individually. Tracking will be under your master account. If you already have a customer account with Amazon, just log into that and then apply to the Associate program as outlined below. You will use one account log-in for personal and business.
Next, Amazon has blocked residents of certain states from using Amazon Associates. If you live in Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, or Rhode Island, they will not allow you to participate. This list is current as of October 2013. For a current list after this, check the Associates Operating Agreement.
Signing up to become an Amazon Associate is easy!
1. Go to the Amazon home page and scroll down to the very bottom of the page. Click on Become an Affiliate.
2. Click Join Now for Free, and then click I Am a New Customer on the next page.
3. Fill in your name and email address and click Create Account.
4. Go through the steps of filling in your personal, payment and website information and identity verification.
The last step is to Start Using Associates Central.
Tomorrow we’ll dive into Associates Central and all of the different programs and options that it offers. If you haven’t already signed up to get these posts via email, now would be a great time to do that! 🙂
